The Aquila Hematology Analyzer is not just another piece of medical equipment. Its design was inspired by the need for absolute functionality and simplicity, making it suitable for use by even inexperienced laboratory workers. The device's reduced size and simplified testing process were key inspirations throughout the design process.

What sets Aquila apart from other hematology analyzers is its potential to change clinical practice and patient care. By reducing healthcare costs and waiting times, it offers significant benefits to both medical professionals and patients. Its compact size frees up desk space, and its portability allows it to be used in various testing scenarios. Despite its simplicity and functionality, Aquila retains a unique look and feel.

The device is made of custom-made metal, sheet metal, and plastic parts, with enclosures fabricated from moulded plastic. The use of colored materials for injection moulding adds to its durability. The device measures 322mm x 272 mm x 366 mm, making it compact and easily transportable.

The Aquila Hematology Analyzer is operated by inserting the sample tube through the front lid, after which the machine automatically processes the sample. The results are displayed on a tilted touch screen. The setup and fine-tuning of the test can be controlled through a user-friendly graphic user interface, with specific functions assignable to different user profiles. Maintenance, reagent pack changing, and service are easily manageable by removing the enclosure.

The design process for Aquila began in 2013 in Budapest and concluded in 2016. The Maform Design Studio conducted extensive user research, using tools such as user scenario modeling, mock-ups, physical prototypes, and user tests. The goal was to design a solution that makes blood testing quicker and more accessible. The result is a device that not only meets this goal but also redefines the basics of interaction in hematology devices.

In recognition of its innovative design and potential impact on healthcare, the Aquila Hematology Analyzer was awarded the Golden A' Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect extraordinary excellence and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
