The inspiration for Kilt Cult came from a study conducted by Bueno, where she observed the migratory behavior of fashion consumers towards the clothing section of the opposite gender. This led to the creation of a collection that blends components from traditional male and female clothing, resulting in a unique unisex collection. The collection disregards societal norms of clothing for men and women, instead promoting a no-gender identity.
Kilt Cult is a collection of 10 outfits, made from a variety of fabrics including satin, linen, suede, leather, tricoline cotton, knitwear, and doubled knitwear. The collection features two striking prints - triangular and checkered, and four colors - two shades of yellow, brown, and black. The garments are either hand sewn or machine sewn, ensuring a high level of craftsmanship and quality.
Developed between 2014 and 2015 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Kilt Cult was Bueno's final project for her fashion design graduation at Fumec. The collection was completed in 2016 with the addition of 8 new garments, bringing the total to 19 garments and 10 outfits. The collection is a testament to Bueno's innovative approach to fashion design and her commitment to challenging gender norms in the industry.
One of the main challenges in creating Kilt Cult was merging the best aspects of men's and women's clothing. Bueno chose elements that best represented the essence of what consumers expressed during her research. The result is a collection that uses vibrant colors, striking prints, and modeling developed to fit both men and women well. Kilt Cult is more than just oversized men's clothes that women can also wear; it is a collection that truly embodies the idea of genderless fashion.
Kilt Cult is part of FEMMAN, Bueno's upcoming brand that promotes what she calls freestyle fashion. The collection merges Brazilian and Celtic cultures and relies on striking prints, vibrant colors, and genderless modeling. It is a statement against standardized thought and a celebration of individuality and freedom of expression. The collection was awarded the Golden A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award in 2017, a testament to its innovative design and impact on the fashion industry.
