Revolutionizing Fashion: The i.Dummy Part III

Meet the Robotic Mannequin Transforming the Fashion Industry

In an era where technology and fashion intersect, the i.Dummy Part III, a robotic mannequin, is revolutionizing the industry. With its ability to mimic various body configurations, it offers a unique solution to the challenges of garment fitting and design assessment.

Designed by a team led by Dr. Allan C.K. Chan, the i.Dummy Part III, also known as the ManniQueen, is a product of four years of intensive research and development. The team, which includes Gordon Wong, Tsui Ka Ping, Ryan Hon, and Ann Wu, studied the size and anthropometric profiles of several nationalities and their sizing systems. The result is a mannequin that can automatically change its size, shape, and proportion three-dimensionally via a user-friendly computer interface.

The i.Dummy uses robotics principles and mechatronics technology, with electro-mechanisms that can perform with an accuracy of 0.1 cm. It can change its sizes from the smallest (UK 6 or equivalent) to the largest (UK 16 or equivalent) in just 8 seconds. This level of precision and flexibility makes it an invaluable tool for fashion companies catering to various brands and nationalities.

One of the unique features of the i.Dummy is its ability to mimic a wide range of body profiles. This is achieved by independently changing various parts of the body, such as the body rise in seam, out seam, waist, hip, and thigh. This feature allows for a multi-population application, making it ideal for any fashion company catering to various brands or nationalities.

The i.Dummy Part III was unveiled to the media in March 2013 and exhibited at the Fashion Week, Spring Summer in July 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It has since been recognized for its innovation and technical design, winning the Silver A' Product Engineering and Technical Design Award in 2017.

The development of the i.Dummy Part III represents a significant advancement in the fashion industry. By providing a single, adjustable entity that can accurately mimic a wide range of body profiles, it offers a practical and efficient solution to the challenges of garment fitting and design assessment. This innovative tool is set to become indispensable in the fashion industry, paving the way for more accurate and inclusive designs.
