Along the porch, the public areas, including the dining room, kitchen, and living room, are composed of elegantly textured wallpapers, fine-lined stripes, and distinctive oil paintings. The incorporation of classical elements, such as crystal chandeliers, leather sofas, and a variety of art collections, creates a contextual and solid atmosphere, making it the focal point of social activities.
The configuration and arrangement of space were carefully considered to strengthen the connections between people. An open kitchen was used to break the barrier between the restaurant and the kitchen, allowing continuous interaction between family members and friends while cooking. This island-style design not only visually enlarges the limited interior space but also enhances the fun of cooking.
The project, covering an area of 522 square meters, was completed in June 2016 in Taichung City, Taiwan. Private living areas, including a master bedroom, kids' room, and study room, are separated to provide privacy. However, the walls between the study room and kids' room were removed to enable the owner to interact with their children while reading, fostering stronger family relations.
One of the notable challenges in this project was creating a childlike paradise in the kids' room. The designer incorporated suspended plesiosaur models from the ceiling, geometrically shaped beds and wall decorations, and playful elements such as light-spilled blinds, chair lifts, and red lines. These elements allow children to meet their needs and gain life experiences in their own small world.
The "Enjoy Meaningful Life" interior design project is a testament to Pi-Lan Hsu's creativity and attention to detail.
