Play in Art: A Kids-Friendly Restaurant

Creating a Safe and Fun Dining Experience for Children

The Play in Art restaurant is a unique and innovative concept that combines dining with entertainment, providing a safe and enjoyable space for children. Designed by Chen-Chuan Tang, this kids-friendly restaurant offers a delightful experience for both kids and adults.

The inspiration behind the Play in Art restaurant came from the need for a dining space that caters specifically to children, from babies to eight-year-olds. With a large space spanning 370 square meters, the restaurant provides ample room for children to run around and have fun while their parents enjoy a meal. It goes beyond being just a place to eat, functioning as an interactive playground as well.

One of the standout features of the Play in Art restaurant is its unique design that incorporates different styles in different areas. The service space, including the kitchen, storage room, and restrooms, is located on the first floor, allowing for a separation between the dining and playing areas.

The basement is dedicated to the dining and playing areas, each designed with its own distinct style. The main dining area exudes a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, with a combination of red, white, and blue dining chairs, green-and-white walls, and light-colored wooden tables.

By incorporating various entertaining facilities and wall paintings in the playing area, the restaurant encourages children to explore and engage their imagination during their visit. The design aims to make dining hours a moment of discovery and excitement for children.

The Play in Art restaurant was completed in April 2014 in Taipei City, Taiwan. It addresses the growing trend of people dining out rather than cooking at home, while also providing a much-needed space for families with young children.

Chen-Chuan Tang, the designer behind this innovative concept, successfully overcame creative and technical challenges to create a space that is both functional and visually appealing. The combination of stone bars, cultural stones, herringbone wooden floors, and playful ornaments creates a simple and joyful atmosphere.

The Play in Art restaurant has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This prestigious award acknowledges the restaurant's contribution to quality of life improvements through its incorporation of art, science, design, and technology.

With its unique concept and attention to detail, the Play in Art restaurant sets a new standard for kids-friendly dining experiences. It offers a safe and enjoyable space for children to play and explore, while parents can relax and enjoy their meal. This innovative design truly makes dining a memorable and interactive experience for the whole family.
