The design, aptly named "Design and Survival Between Earth and Water," is a testament to the creative prowess of Oft Interiors Ltd. The team, led by CM Jao and Ken Cheung, drew inspiration from the circus culture that Russia left as a heritage in Dalian. This influence is evident in the lobby's aluminum strips ceiling, which mimics the sunlight filtering through a circus tent roof, creating a whimsical atmosphere.
Three distinct huts, housing the ticket box, concession counter, and ATMs, stand prominently within the space. Each hut is defined by a warm tone of red, orange, or green, creating a vibrant, welcoming ambiance. This color scheme extends into the corridor area outside the theatres, where stucco paint allows the colors to confront along the ceiling and walls.
What sets this design apart is its ability to redefine the cinema space. The use of color, material, and spatial arrangement creates a unique atmosphere that goes beyond the traditional movie theatre experience. The design's unique properties have not only garnered appreciation from visitors but also recognition from the design industry.
The Silver A' Design Award, which the project won in 2017, is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. This award is a testament to the design's technical excellence and its ability to evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder in its audience.
In conclusion, "Design and Survival Between Earth and Water" is a shining example of how design can transform a space and create a unique, immersive experience. Through their innovative approach, Oft Interiors Ltd. has not only redefined the cinema space but also set a high standard for future designs in the industry.
