Exotic Jewellers: A Luxurious Goldmine-Inspired Jewellery Store

A Unique Concept by Hamidreza Nikkhou

The goal of this project is to design a luxury jewellery store in north of Tehran. Inspired by goldmines and the co-occurrence of gold, rock, and crystal, this metaphoric composition aims to create a space that is dark, mysterious, impressive, creative, shiny, and edgy.

Exotic Jewellers, designed by Hamidreza Nikkhou, is a one-of-a-kind jewellery store that takes inspiration from the allure of goldmines. The design concept revolves around the idea of gold, this seductive metal, encased in rocks, and the exploration of harsh underground mine conditions. The result is a modern, minimalist, and edgy interpretation of a gold mine space, with streaks of gold and giant clear crystals as decorative elements and jewelry display units.

The defining element of this interior design is the use of rock shapes throughout the space. Over 600 parts of matte black Corian are seamlessly attached with a special resin to create an integrated black structure without visible seams, resulting in an impressive dark interior. Each facet is precisely cut using a CNC machine, ensuring the highest level of precision and craftsmanship.

The walls of Exotic Jewellers feature gold cracks made of gold-plated bronze sheets, adding a touch of luxury and elegance. The floor is made of Ice Onyx slab, creating a striking contrast and shine. Crystal glass displays, randomly placed in the interior space, serve as both functional jewelry showcases and artistic installations. The inner space of the displays is covered with an anti-reflective fabric, ensuring the best presentation of the exquisite jewelry pieces.

To complement the overall design, the chairs in Exotic Jewellers are seamlessly made by casting molten glass in a cast iron mold. This unique production method results in chairs that are not only visually stunning but also comfortable for customers to sit and admire the jewelry on display.

The entrance of Exotic Jewellers sets the tone for the entire space, evoking the secretive spirit of goldmines with bold geometric forms. As visitors step inside, they are immediately surrounded by matte black rocks of Corian, with cracks of golden plated bronze sheets, creating an atmosphere of exploration and mystery. The large crystal glass displays, along with the bold outgrowths of the wall transformed into hand-made crystal glass, further enhance the exotic and luxurious feel of the space. The luminous floor made of Ice Onyx slab adds a touch of glamour and elegance, providing visitors with a truly unique and immersive luxury jewellery shopping experience.

The design and realization of Exotic Jewellers took a total of 42 days, including extensive research on random and nonlinear geometry and formation systems of minerals. The main challenge faced during the design process was translating intangible concepts into appealing physical forms, while also finding technical solutions to ensure the functionality and durability of the space.

Exotic Jewellers, with its unique concept and stunning design, has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in 2018. This award acknowledges the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of the space, which meets professional and industrial requirements. The integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics has resulted in a space that not only fulfills its purpose but also contributes to a better world.
