The inspiration for Suigetsu's design comes from Chongqing's geographical location, where the Yang Zi and Jia Ling Rivers intersect. This confluence is reflected in the restaurant's interior design, which merges natural landscape features with architectural elements. The result is a space that not only serves as a dining venue but also as an embodiment of two distinct cultures.
Prism Design has incorporated elements from both Chongqing and Japanese traditions into the restaurant's design. The varying floor heights, for instance, are meant to mimic the diverse landscapes of Chongqing. Meanwhile, the ceiling's shape, inspired by traditional folded fans, uses aluminum alloy as bones with wood textures on the surface, a nod to Japanese culture.
The restaurant's layout was designed with the Chinese concept of Feng Shui in mind, creating a harmonious flow within the space. This is further emphasized by the walking paths, which are designed to mimic the flow of the Yang Zi and Jia Ling Rivers. The result is a space that is not just a restaurant, but a cultural experience.
Despite the challenges presented by the restaurant's glass facade, which created significant light differences during the day and night, Prism Design managed to turn this into an advantage. They refined the appearance of the acrylic light box, allowing customers to appreciate the structure's compound during the day, while providing both light and visual attractiveness at night.
The Suigetsu Japanese Restaurant is a testament to Prism Design's ability to combine traditional elements with modern design techniques. The project, which started in January 2016 and was completed in August 2016, has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017.
In conclusion, the Suigetsu Japanese Restaurant is more than just a dining venue. It is a space where cultures intersect, traditions are respected, and modern design techniques are celebrated. It is a testament to Prism Design's innovative approach to interior design and their ability to create spaces that are not only functional but also culturally significant.
