Return to the Mountain Woods: A Majestic Residence and Club Space

Designer: Kevin Chu

The Return to the Mountain Woods design project by Kevin Chu is a stunning residential spatial planning endeavor that seamlessly combines the concepts of a residence and a club space. With its unique features and exquisite craftsmanship, this design offers a majestic and tranquil environment for the proprietor and their guests.

The inspiration for this design project stems from the proprietor's desire to create a gathering venue for family and friends upon returning to Taiwan after a long time residing overseas. Spanning over 330 square meters, the space is meticulously planned to connect the entire area, fostering a sense of unity and harmony.

The design incorporates a variety of materials, including marble, stone, veneer, titanium plating, and steel panel, to showcase modern generosity. The use of dark wood in the foyer creates a calming ambiance, while the spilled ink marble screen evokes the image of flowing water, adding a touch of serenity to the space.

The club space, comprising the living room, dining room, and central island bar counter, serves as the reception area. The spatial dimensions are carefully considered to exude a majestic aura, making guests feel welcomed and awe-inspired. The television wall, adorned with coarse grey Andesite, highlights the solidness of stone material, while the segmented design accentuates its exquisiteness, reminiscent of mountains and waters.

The dining room features a penetrative light fixture that resembles starlight, with a dark grey background enhancing the light spots, creating a mesmerizing effect akin to the night sky. The private space exudes dignified tranquility, utilizing earth colors to construct a serene atmosphere. The master bedroom conceals the dressing room and storage functions behind a cabinet, showcasing a modern simplicity that contrasts with the style of the public area.

The design also incorporates a semi-open study, adorned with stone and cloud and mist-colored wallpaper, evoking a cultural sentiment. The living space for the family is decorated with artworks that embrace the theme of cozy culture, while the workshop ingeniously utilizes the most non-ideal part of the indoor space.

Completed in 2018 in Taichung, this design project showcases the fusion of nature into life, extracting various elements to reproduce indoor natural landscapes. The meticulous attention to detail and the seamless integration of different materials and styles make Return to the Mountain Woods a truly exceptional design.

Winner of the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020 for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design, this project exemplifies outstanding creativity and resourcefulness. It incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
