Pasta Bowl: A Vibrant and Earthy Italian Cuisine Restaurant

Emulating the Quintessential Feel of a Southern European Beach Side Cafe

The design of Pasta Bowl aims to create a unique and inviting space that captures the imagination of its guests. The restaurant is situated in a linear space, which played to its advantage in achieving the desired design. The length of the site is aligned with an open-to-sky corridor outside, which was transformed into a road-side cafe ambiance using long window-like framing from the exterior.

The interior of Pasta Bowl features a long and narrow space, reminiscent of a street-side seating arrangement in a cafe. The natural and earthy feel is achieved through the use of materials such as beige sandstone flooring and white-painted walls with cement moldings. The ceiling is made of low-cost wood with a raw wood cut finish in walnut color.

The main entrance of the restaurant opens into a smaller room-like space, enclosed with open frames that provide a complete view of the interior. The seating is designed to flow linearly along the external corridor wall, with a row of central aisle tables. The opposite wall houses the open kitchen and a small bar counter in an arched niche, serving as a food service window.

The design of Pasta Bowl was realized with careful attention to detail and the use of natural finishes. Large glass windows along the corridor wall allow ample daylight to flood the space, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.

The concept for Pasta Bowl was inspired by a study of beach-side European cafes and classical Italian buildings. Certain proportions and elements were picked up from these references to create a design that emulates the quintessential feel of a southern European beach side cafe.

Pasta Bowl, completed in October 2016, has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel, and Tourism Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements.
