Revolutionizing Office Spaces: HongKong Simple Technology Limited

Designers Jingyi Cai and Yanhao Ma Redefine Office Interiors with Simplicity and Functionality

Inspired by the minimalist aesthetic of Andy Warhol, designers Jingyi Cai and Yanhao Ma have transformed the office space of HongKong Simple Technology Limited into a modern, functional, and visually appealing environment. The design, which emphasizes simplicity and the removal of unnecessary elements, has earned the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017.

The project, located in the commercial center of Shimen, HongKong, spans an area of about 3000 square meters. It is an office for a young technology company. The design incorporates simple colors and lines as design elements, using a palette of white, yellow, and gray, and a variety of linear materials. Despite the high cost of commercial space, the designers have boldly allocated a significant portion of the area for leisure and relaxation.

The interior design primarily uses wood, metal, glass, and acrylic. The designers have strived to avoid unnecessary use of materials and design elements. They have opted for transparent and thin materials in space division, which makes the space appear larger. The bold use of clean yellow and white as the base colors presented a challenge in achieving the same color across different materials, with minimal color differences.

The project is a new commercial building, located in a bustling commercial center, and has a large outdoor space. It has a total area of over 3000 square meters, but the actual number of users is only 40 people. Considering the long working hours of internet technology companies, the designers have included a lot of life and exercise equipment, allowing employees to fully relax.

The project started in May 2016 in HongKong and finished in December 2016. The designers spent a week at the client company to understand how the company operates and to observe the trajectory of each employee. The original request from the client was to accommodate 80 employees at the same time, but the designers found that only 40 employees were needed. They spent a lot of time collecting data to persuade the client to allocate more rest and motion space for employees, believing that a relaxed working environment can improve staff creativity.

This design scheme, through an in-depth understanding of the balance between yellow and white space, breaks the deconstruction of the space plane. It uses simple materials for comparison, enriching the visual effect of light refraction and space. It aims to find the interaction between people and space, and the symbiosis of human and space.
