Revolutionizing Snack Serving: The Erdnussschütte by Mario Taepper

A Unique Design Ensuring Hygiene and Efficiency in Nut Serving

Mario Taepper's inspiration for the Erdnussschütte came from his travels and stays in hotels. He noticed the common practice of serving peanuts and other snacks in glass or porcelain bowls, which raised hygiene concerns. Studies show that a significant percentage of people do not wash their hands after using the restroom, making the communal snack bowl a potential health risk. This observation led Taepper to design a solution that would allow people to enjoy their snacks without worrying about hygiene.

The Erdnussschütte is a peanut dispenser made of stainless steel. Its unique property is that it allows users to pour peanuts into their hands without touching them, thereby ensuring cleanliness. This design not only addresses hygiene concerns but also reduces waste, as hotels no longer need to dispose of as many nuts.

With dimensions of 170mm in height and a diameter of 76mm at the bottom, the Erdnussschütte is compact and easy to use. The design is simple yet effective, embodying the tags of being unique, concise, and outstanding. Despite its simplicity, the design fulfills the wish to serve peanuts and other nibbles in a clean way, making it a valuable addition to any bar or hotel.

The Erdnussschütte project began in 2011 and was awarded in 2012 by the DDC competition "Gute Gestaltung". The production and selling of the Erdnussschütte is handled by Carl Mertens International in Solingen, Germany. While there is no patent for the design, it is protected.

The Erdnussschütte has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design Award in 2017. The Golden A' Design Award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology. It is a testament to Taepper's ingenuity and the Erdnussschütte's impact on the world of design.
