Grid-Electro: A Symbol of Energy in Product Design

Hochu Rayu's Award-Winning Candlestick Inspired by Electric Power Lines

Grid-Electro, a unique candlestick design by Hochu Rayu, reinterprets the familiar silhouette of electric power lines, transforming them into a symbol of energy within the realm of product design. This innovative design, which won the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2017, serves as a reminder of the industrial age while promoting a more sustainable future.

The inspiration behind Grid-Electro stems from the ubiquitous presence of electric power lines across the globe. These structures, which vary in form even within the same country, are a testament to the industrial age. However, as the world gradually shifts towards cleaner, renewable sources of energy, these power lines may eventually disappear from our landscapes. Hochu Rayu's design seeks to preserve the memory of these structures by reimagining them in a new context.

Electro candlestick, the first item from the Grid series, uses the form of electric power lines to symbolize energy in product design. The base of the product, made from metallic wire, mimics the characteristic exterior of power lines, bringing a piece of the outdoor landscape into the interior space. The use of fire, the first discovered type of energy, further emphasizes this symbolism.

Despite its unique concept, the Electro candlestick maintains practicality. The product base is lightweight and stable, with minimal material expenses. It also offers customization options, with different painting colors and additional metallic hooks available. The candlestick measures 66x28 cm and weighs only 600 g, making it a versatile addition to any interior setting.

Grid-Electro is more than just a candlestick; it's a part of a larger series that transforms the form of electric power lines into various indoor and outdoor models. These models come in different sizes and serve different functions, including standing lamps, hangers, shelves, and flowerpot organizers. This versatility demonstrates the potential of the Grid series to revolutionize product design.

The Electro candlestick, created in 2016, is a result of thorough research and analysis of different forms of electric power lines, particularly those typical to Ukraine. The design team, consisting of Vitalii Kyryliv, Yurii Kyryliv, and Danuta Kril, faced the challenge of transforming a symbol of industrialization into an aesthetic object. Their success is evident in the Silver A' Furniture Design Award the product received in 2017, a testament to their creativity and innovation.

In conclusion, Grid-Electro by Hochu Rayu is a unique reinterpretation of electric power lines, transforming them into a symbol of energy in product design. This innovative approach not only preserves the memory of the industrial age but also promotes a more sustainable future. The Electro candlestick is a testament to the power of design to transform the familiar into the extraordinary.
