VanDutch Center: A Sport and Recreation Space Inspired by Elegance

Unleashing the Power of VanDutch Yachts in a Unique Design

The VanDutch Center, designed by sanzpont [arquitectura], is a one-of-a-kind sport and recreation space that draws inspiration from the aerodynamic lines and elegance of VanDutch yachts. Situated in Puerto Cancun, Mexico, this project aims to create a space that integrates sports, social activities, and breathtaking views of the canal and golf course.

The VanDutch Center stands out for its recreational and sports integration. It offers a new public space that includes sport spaces, a green roof, a raised patio, recreational and outdoor areas, a terrace, and a dock with a waterway view. This design encourages social interaction and fosters a sense of community.

What sets the VanDutch Center apart is its vanguard design. The architects have employed the latest technologies to create a contemporary space that is both unique and visually striking. The use of sleek and shiny materials combined with wood evokes the idea of nautical docks, further enhancing the connection to the VanDutch yachts.

Accessibility and pedestrian circulation were key considerations in the design process. The VanDutch Center is designed for all members of the public, with a preference for pedestrian traffic. This ensures that the space is inclusive and welcoming to everyone.

The realization of the VanDutch Center was made possible through the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology. From the initial design phase to documentation and fabrication, the entire process was guided by the 3D model created on iPhone/iPad A360 cloud. This technology allowed for better understanding of the construction phases, including the steel structure, MEP, and aluminum cladding facade.

Spanning over a 1,840 m2 terrain, the VanDutch Center maximizes its amenities by utilizing only 30 percent of the area for construction. The remaining 70 percent is dedicated to green outdoor spaces, sports, and recreation areas. The strategic location of the center, along a well-known transit avenue, offers visitors an amazing view of the canal just across the street.

The VanDutch Center is not just a static structure; it is a dynamic space that invites people to engage with their surroundings. The design encourages visitors to sit on the terrace, enjoy a cup of coffee, and marvel at the canal view and native vegetation. The integration of sports facilities, such as soccer courts, adds an energetic element to the space.

The VanDutch Center project began in August 2015 and was completed in May 2016. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to capture the essence of speed, movement, and energy. These elements were translated into shapes, colors, and textures, resulting in a project with horizontal proportions, diagonal elements, and curves. Bright colors, such as yellow, were chosen to create a vibrant atmosphere in the food-related spaces.

Overcoming creative and technical challenges was crucial to the conceptualization of the VanDutch Center. The designers utilized digital experimentation, drawings, and Industrial Design Software "Rhinoceros" to achieve the desired vanguard and aerodynamic lines reminiscent of VanDutch yachts. This initial design was then further developed using BIM technology and digital manufacturing.

The VanDutch Center has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017 in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate technical and creative excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.

The VanDutch Center is a testament to the power of design to create spaces that integrate sports, recreation, and social activities. Inspired by the elegance of VanDutch yachts, this unique project offers a contemporary and inviting environment for all to enjoy.
