Setter Architects' Innovative Office Design Inspired by Human Anatomy

Algotec Systems' Office Space Transformed into a Unique Architectural Vocabulary

Setter Architects, a renowned design team, has transformed the office space of Algotec Systems into a unique architectural vocabulary inspired by human anatomy. The design, which won the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, is a testament to the team's innovative approach and commitment to creating spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The inspiration for the interior planning and design came from images of the human body's elements, like cells, molecules, tissue, and the spinal column. These elements formed the basis for a unique design language that drew together the interior planning and design concepts. The design team processed anatomical images through filters of scale, materials, prints, and textures to create a distinctive design vocabulary.

The unique properties of this design are evident in the construction of wood strips simulating the layering of human tissue, textures and graphics covering the partitions that replicate cell patterns in large-scale, wall coverings and floorings that simulate the structure of the ribcage, and suspended lighting fixtures inspired by human tissue and cells. The design team's innovative approach to using human anatomy as a source of inspiration resulted in a fresh architectural vocabulary that sets this design apart from others.

The design was realized through manual sketches and computerized 3D models, focusing on special features like the "spine" elements and circulating conference rooms. To perfect the special sculpture-like cladding, the team collaborated with an industrial designer-master carpenter, who first built a real scale prototype on location. The project, spanning 2,800 sqm with a floor height of 3.90m, took place in Israel from September 2015 to August 2016.

The new office design encourages shared productive efforts and preserves the fine balance between closed private spaces and open spaces for social meetings and gatherings. The design team created several types of meeting rooms: formal, informal, and "phone" booths to cater to the different needs of the employees, some of whom have been working at the company for over 15 years.

The most significant challenge faced by the design team was to create a design that would be inspired and according to the client's demands, all under a limited budget. Despite this, the team managed to create a working space that is pleasant, comfortable, and enables privacy, while also reflecting the company's content world.

The design team's innovative approach to office design, coupled with their commitment to creating spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, has resulted in a unique architectural vocabulary that sets this design apart from others. This project is a testament to Setter Architects' innovative approach and commitment to design excellence.
