Located at the American University in Cairo's Greek Campus, the Trend Micro Cairo office is a testament to Sadany's innovative approach to design. The project, which started in January 2016 and was completed in October of the same year, involved extensive renovation of a 420 square meter storage space. The result is a workspace that feels larger than it actually is, thanks to the clever use of broken lines and reflective surfaces.
The design of the office was heavily influenced by the Islamic Mafrouka, a pattern that Sadany has always admired. By incorporating this pattern into the overall theme of the office, she was able to create a space that feels connected and coherent. The use of broken lines not only tricks the eye into perceiving the space as larger, but also creates a sense of connection between the various elements of the office.
One of the unique features of the Trend Micro Cairo office is its user-friendly design. The interior successfully blurs the lines between professionalism and a hip, trendy, youthful spirit. The design encourages collaboration, casual interaction, and communication, making it a perfect environment for a technology company.
Various materials were used in the construction of the office, including cast iron, glass panels, wood flooring, and marble tiles. Recycled steel was used in several areas, including structural beams, decorative pins, and a fly-over staircase. This not only showcases the functional use of recycled materials but also adds an artistic touch to the space.
Despite the challenges posed by the original structure of the space, Sadany was able to create a design that is both practical and visually appealing. The use of color, design elements, and the overall interior layout ensure that movement is not restricted to straight lines, thereby creating a sense of fluidity within the space.
The Trend Micro Cairo office is a shining example of how traditional design elements can be incorporated into modern workspaces. It is a testament to Sadany's ability to create designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and user-friendly. The project was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, a testament to its outstanding design and trendsetting features.
