Revitalizing Shenzhen: Aedas' Award-Winning Design

Shenzhen Luohu Friendship Trading Centre: A Symbol of Rebirth and Pure Friendship

The design of the Shenzhen Luohu Friendship Trading Centre was inspired by the Calla Lily, a symbol of youth and rebirth. Its white color represents pure friendship, a concept that is revealed through the tower form that opens up at the top and the northwest corner, allowing a downward green spine to the podium and ground plane. The cascading 7-storey podium creates a vertical public realm, integrating landscape components with the surrounding context.

This redevelopment is envisioned to transfigure a current department store into a skyscraper in Shenzhen. The 7-storey vibrant and porous retail podium stacks up various dynamic and organic-form boxes, delivering a new, sustainable and iconic design for the bustling city. The architecture features landscaped public spaces and terraces in the podium, with green balconies along one of the tower’s edges, integrating well with abundant green spaces to provide a healthy ecological ground.

The Shenzhen Luohu Friendship Trading Centre boasts a gross floor area of 90,000 sqm and a height of 250m. The design team, led by Wai Tang, has created a unique and innovative structure that stands out in the city's skyline.

The design has been recognized for its outstanding expertise and innovation, winning the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2017. The Silver A' Design Award is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

With its unique properties and design specifications, the Shenzhen Luohu Friendship Trading Centre is a testament to Aedas' commitment to creating sustainable and iconic designs that contribute to the urban fabric of cities.
