Iwan Residence: Blending Islamic and Minimalism Architecture

A Luxury Up-Market Residence by Dalia Sadany

The Iwan Residence is a unique blend of Islamic and Minimalism architecture, designed by renowned architect Dalia Sadany. Inspired by the intricate engravings of an Islamic mosque door, Sadany saw the potential to combine the straight, unsophisticated composition of Minimalism with the glamorous Islamic flair. This fusion of styles creates a truly magnificent and futuristic luxury residence.

The Iwan Residence stands out from other residential homes with its cutting-edge contemporary design and its incorporation of Islamic elements. The owner, who has a deep affection for both contemporary designs and Islamic aesthetics, wanted to create a space that seamlessly merges these two themes. The result is a stunning intermingling of different worlds, where the historical palace of the 1000 nights meets the futuristic era of the 21st century.

The design of the Iwan Residence showcases the diversity of materials and techniques used in its construction. Traditional handcrafting techniques were employed in the veiled windows and the stencils of Quranic verses carved in stone cladding. Modern mechanical installations, such as acid hammered panels of marble, were also used. The implementation of these diverse materials and techniques adds depth and richness to the design.

With a total land area of 2 acres, the Iwan Residence consists of three buildings. The first building houses a two-story garage, a guard house, and external servant quarters. The second building includes a one-story pool house and a one-bedroom apartment. The main building, which spans three stories, is the centerpiece of the residence with a floor plan of 640 sqm.

The Iwan Residence is not just a physical structure; it is a statement of harmonious fusion. It demonstrates that trends from entirely diverse worlds and backgrounds can be blended through extensive research and a deep understanding of each style's unique characteristics. This design embodies style, comfort, and exciting diversified elements, creating a truly unique and captivating living space.

The Iwan Residence project began in February 2012, with extensive research and conceptual trials lasting until July 2012. The architectural detailed drawings, including layout, plans, elevations, and sections, were completed by January 2013. Located in the luxurious district of Mansoureyia in Cairo, Egypt, the Iwan Residence is a testament to the creativity and vision of Dalia Sadany.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in 2013. The Iwan Residence was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Iwan Residence stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
