Hadar's House: A Testament to Sustainable Architecture

Asante Architecture and Design's Award-Winning Project in Norway

Asante Architecture and Design's Hadar's House, a small dwelling on the coast of Norway, is a testament to sustainable architecture. This award-winning project is a perfect blend of design, sustainability, and functionality, offering a unique living experience.

The house, part of the Bygda 2.0 project, is a rural development initiative on the island of Stokkøya. The project focuses on transforming modern Norwegian houses into a dynamic village, where businesses and research activities coexist with living spaces. The house overlooks the neighboring islands and the Norwegian Sea, offering a breathtaking view from every room.

The design of Hadar's House was inspired by the client's desire to live in harmony with nature. The house is constructed of wood, with a wooden siding used both externally and internally. The facade, designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, is made of maintenance-free burned wood, a technique borrowed from traditional Japanese architecture.

The house is divided into two units, with the lower unit housing the entrance and bathroom, and the higher unit comprising the kitchen, living room, and a loft. The two units are slightly offset, creating an inviting open space at the front and a private, intimate space at the back. The house features smaller windows towards the road and large panoramic windows towards the water, allowing the resident to enjoy the stunning landscape.

One of the unique features of the house is the roof, made of sedum grass, which adds a touch of greenery to the rocky landscape. The interior of the house boasts wooden panels with different treatments, offering a variety of colors. The bathroom features floor tiles that extend to the bathtub, giving an uninterrupted view of the outside.

The house's heating system is a modern wood stove with a water jacket that works alongside a solar water heater. On sunny days, there is almost no need for other heating sources than the energy collected from the sun, even in the middle of winter. This sustainable solution is a testament to Asante Architecture and Design's commitment to sustainable architecture.

The design of Hadar's House earned Asante Architecture and Design the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's wisdom and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
