Octavo: A Functional and Portable Home Office Desk

Efficiency and Innovation for Small Living Spaces

Growing populations in big cities cause decreasing living space for every person. To be able to use these minimum spaces with maximum efficiency, we need to propose functional furniture. Designing removable products is a clever way to contribute to creating larger living environments, and designing foldable products is the most effective way to improve this objective.

Introducing Octavo, a home office concept designed by Süha Süzen to function as soon as it is unboxed, without the need for any assembly process. As a solution for creating workspaces in small living environments, Octavo proposes a portable worksurface leaned on the wall. This innovative design allows individuals to maximize their productivity without sacrificing valuable living space.

Octavo stands out from other home office desks with its unique properties. The desk is designed to be easily set up and used without any complicated assembly. The cold-formed sheet metal main frame is powder coated for durability, while the movable worksurface is offered with chipboard, plywood, and MDF materials. This combination of materials ensures both functionality and aesthetics.

The convenience of Octavo extends beyond its easy setup. The product is assembled and packaged in the production facility, making it ready to use as soon as it is unboxed. With a simple folding operation, the desk stands by leaning on a wall, creating a 90° worksurface. Elastic bumpers are placed where the product meets the floor and wall, ensuring stability and preventing any damage. The metal frame structure is also designed to mount universal accessories such as lighting, pen holders, and folder racks, allowing users to personalize their workspace.

Octavo's design specifications further enhance its practicality. The content in the box does not require any kind of assembly operation, making it hassle-free for users. The compact dimensions of 100 x 100 x 12 cm ensure that the boxes can be stacked efficiently, with a maximum of 10 boxes on each EUR pallet 2. This design consideration not only reduces shipping costs but also allows for easy storage and transportation.

The Octavo project was designed and prototyped in Konya, Turkey in 2016, with the registration of the design still ongoing. The design process involved extensive research to address various challenges related to production, shipping, assembly, and usage. By eliminating the need for assembly and providing the flexibility to change the location of the desk without tools, Octavo offers feasible and flexible solutions that set it apart from its competitors.

Octavo's innovative design has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award. This award acknowledges the desk's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Iron A' Design Award specifically highlights Octavo's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.

With Octavo, Süha Süzen has successfully created a functional and portable home office desk that maximizes efficiency in small living spaces. Its unique design and ease of use make it an ideal choice for individuals seeking a versatile and personalized workspace.
