Guangfei Cloud Sea: A Dreamlike Art Installation

Yun-Lun Chang's Award-Winning Design Transforms a Taipei Cafe

The inspiration for the Guangfei Cloud Sea came from the galaxy, first light, and the concept of a sea of clouds. Using handcraftsmanship, the team created a three-ping (approximately 10 square meters) art deco installation that seamlessly integrates with the cafe's existing dreamy gold, pink, and mint green color scheme. The result is a design topic that has not only enhanced the cafe's atmosphere but also attracted its target consumer group.

What sets the Guangfei Cloud Sea apart from other art installations is its unique use of materials and construction techniques. Steel was used as the top support, with flexible steel netting filling in the shape. The surface was then covered with organic cotton, glued on piece by piece to create the image of a sea of clouds. The project, which was completed in December 2016, covers an area of 72.6 square meters. It was a collaborative effort by Yun-Lun Chang, Ting-Chia Tsou, Chun-Han Chen, Yi-Chien Wen, and Yi-Fang Chen.
