Latin Rhythm: A Fusion of Cultural Aesthetics and Modern Design

Pepe Calderin's Award-Winning Residential Design Inspired by Venezuelan and Cuban Sensibilities

The Latin Rhythm project began as a simple 3-bedroom renovation but evolved into a 5-bedroom conversion complete with a gazebo and pool lounge. The entry and sunken living room feature a cantilever fireplace wall covered in white onyx and a mirrored waterfall nestled in a stacked travertine wall. Wenge wood is used throughout the residence, adding a warm feel, complemented by pops of color in the upholstery.

The design's unique properties lie in its ability to translate the owners' vision into a space that exudes the joy of living in warmer climates while maintaining a sleek South Florida styling that appeals to any cultural aesthetic. The use of rich materials flowing from one space to another ensures design continuity, while the sheer and light window treatments allow outdoor views even when fully closed.

One of the technological aspects used within this residence is the ethanol gas fireplace. The residence, which spans 372 square-meters, is located in Miami, Florida. The project started in October 2013 and was completed in November 2014.

Pepe Calderin Design faced several challenges during the transformation of this 20-year-old house. The ceilings jutted at various angles, and the stairway was not up to code. Calderin moved the front entry, designed a new stairway, and used his signature ceiling design elements to overcome these challenges. The result is a dream home with a cabana room, an outdoor gazebo, a 56-foot-long pool with a spa and soaking bar, and an open layout that reflects the client's desire for a sense of space.

The Latin Rhythm Residence was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
