Colegio Hebreo Maguen David: Redefining Educational Spaces

Designing Spaces for Inspiration and Innovation

Thinking in the present and designing the future of educational environments is essential in a period when technology constantly absorbs our manner of learning and living in this world. Juan Carlos Baumgartner, the renowned designer behind the Colegio Hebreo Maguen David project, understands this need and has created spaces that generate experiences and promote knowledge, inspiring creativity, innovation, and self-discovery.

The design proposal of SpAce, led by Juan Carlos Baumgartner, aligns perfectly with the ideology of Colegio Maguen David. The aim is to visualize the most effective learning in social environments, rejecting formal and rigid spaces. Learning is not just intellectual but also emotional, and therefore the conversion of traditional spaces to transitional spaces is preferred, allowing students, professors, collaborators, and parents to make use of the spaces.

Interior design plays a crucial role in transforming spaces. With the use of colors, textures, aromas, and functional intuition, SpAce has created a natural and friendly system in configurable, flexible spaces. Natural light floods the interiors, creating an environment that enhances learning. The design incorporates different staging within the same institution, combining open and closed spaces in balance and harmony. Modular furniture allows for constant transformation, adapting to the needs of the students and facilitating a comfortable and engaging learning experience.

The Colegio Hebreo Maguen David project covers an area of 2,100 square meters. The design is tailored to the different stages of the school's development, transitioning from organic forms in the daycare and preschool areas to more rational and orthogonal forms in the high school section. The project also includes shared support and service areas such as green spaces, a cafeteria, printing facilities, and productive boulevards for informal meetings and team projects.

Collaboration with various entities and experts has been instrumental in bringing this design to life. Acoustics were carefully considered by Carlos Vazquez Quintero, while lighting was expertly handled by LUA. Furniture from Steelcase and Vitra, along with carpets from Shaw Contract Group, contribute to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the spaces. The photography credits go to Paul Czitrom and Pim Schalkwijk, who have beautifully captured the essence of the design.

The Colegio Hebreo Maguen David project is a testament to the power of design in creating spaces that foster creativity, innovation, and a love for learning. By prioritizing the needs of the students and incorporating the latest design principles, Juan Carlos Baumgartner and his team have successfully reimagined educational spaces, setting a new standard for excellence in the field.

This outstanding design has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in 2017. The Bronze A' Design Award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Colegio Hebreo Maguen David project has not only improved the quality of educational spaces but has also made a positive impact on the lives of students and the community.
