Fonts are typically designed with uniformity in mind, with each letter adhering to a specific style and form. Kanibal, however, breaks away from this norm. Every letter in this typeface is created with a different weight, style, and form, making it a game of shapes that dances before the viewer's eyes. This unique approach to typeface design is what sets Kanibal apart from its counterparts.
Zlatanovic drew inspiration from the works of Nikola Tesla, the renowned inventor and electrical engineer. The letters in Kanibal are geometric and electric, reflecting Tesla's innovative spirit. Furthermore, the diversity of the letters is a nod to the wealth of differences in society, emphasizing that diversity is a strength and not a weakness.
The creation of Kanibal involved both digital and traditional methods. Some letters were drawn by markers on paper and then traced in Adobe Illustrator. The font is available in both .ttf and .otf format files, catering to both Windows and Mac users, and is made in Latin and Cyrillic.
The journey of Kanibal began in January 2016 in Belgrade, Serbia, and concluded in October 2016 in Chicago, USA. The project was not without its challenges. The most difficult part, according to Zlatanovic, was ensuring that the different weight letters looked like a cohesive project. However, his efforts were not in vain. Kanibal has been recognized by many big companies, including Nike, and was awarded Silver in the A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2017.
In conclusion, Kanibal is a testament to Zlatanovic's innovative spirit and his belief in the power of diversity. It is a typeface that challenges the norms of design and celebrates the beauty of differences. With its unique properties and engaging visual appeal, Kanibal is indeed a font that dances with diversity.
