A Subtle and Opulent Design that Redefines Luxury

The Ritz Condominium lobby stands out with its unique blend of colonial elegance and Asian identity. The designers, Alex Bayusaputro and Monica Amelia, aimed to create a sense of formality while maintaining a homely feel. The result is a subtle and opulent design that redefines luxury.

The lobby is part of a major development attached to a shopping mall, providing a seamless connection between the two. Intimate seating spaces are strategically placed against the marble-clad environment, offering a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The design concept aims to create a "home away from home" sentiment, catering to the needs and desires of the occupants.

The Ritz Condominium lobby project started in July 2015 and was completed in August 2016. Located at The Ritz Mansion in Surabaya, Indonesia, the development targets mid-market to up-market residents who seek pampered and high-rise living with convenient amenities.

Alex Bayusaputro and Monica Amelia conducted extensive research to understand the demographics and preferences of the occupants. The design reflects this research, incorporating an eclectic mix of modern materials and a bespoke Asian theme. This personal touch creates a relatable and unique experience for the residents.

The design team faced creative and technical challenges in transforming the lobby into a luxurious space that resembled an up-market service apartment lobby. By infusing the softness of an opulent apartment with the durability of a common area, they successfully created a design that exudes simple luxury.

The Ritz Condominium lobby design has received recognition for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This prestigious award honors designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to quality of life improvements.
