Nostalgia: A Ring that Symbolizes Longing and Hope

The Nostalgia ring, as its name suggests, is inspired by the Greek compound word 'nostalgia', which is a blend of 'nostos' meaning return and 'algos' meaning pain. This concept of an unsatisfied longing to return to something is beautifully encapsulated in the design of the ring. The ring, a symbol of unity, does not meet ends at its base, symbolizing two people who, though united, may or may not meet again. The twist ending looking in different directions further enhances this symbolism.

What sets the Nostalgia ring apart is its unique design and the materials used. The ring does not close face up, instead making a twist looking in different directions. It is designed to be made of 18K yellow gold and set with two black round brilliant cut diamonds. The special rhombic section of the ring makes it comfortable to wear, and the top twist increases visibility for the stones that are set inside.

The ring was first carved in wax to achieve maximum detail. It was then cast, and the prototype was made into rubber to be available for mass production. The final product is made with 18K yellow gold and set with black diamonds. The ring measures 6.33mmx28mmx28mm, with a base width of 2.86mm. Each diamond has a diameter of 3.92mm and weighs 0.20ct.

The Nostalgia ring is designed to be worn on any finger of the hand, by both men and women. The project began in January 2017 and was completed in February 2017. The design was based on producing a ring with a geometrical section, a challenge that was successfully overcome. The ring's shape, combined with the stones set sideways, was inspired by two people's longing to meet again. Their connection is inimitable, and this is described on its base; although they travel in different directions hoping to meet again, they fail to do so. The theme, with the stones looking sideways, shows exactly the pain caused by this longing of return; eventually, it transfigures into hope. The juxtaposition emphasizes the true nature of love as it is manifested through time and space.

The Nostalgia ring is a testament to Eleni Tezapsidou's creativity and technical expertise. It is a remarkable design that not only showcases artistic skill but also introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. The ring was awarded Silver in the A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2017, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.
