The 'Warming Cocoon' stands out for its unique use of materials and its ability to create a balance between the cold, solid nature of concrete and the warm, inviting texture of wood. Concrete, representing simplicity, nature, and solidity, conveys a strong and reliable image of the company. Wood, on the other hand, softens the space's tension, adding a touch of warmth.
The design's unique properties lie in its use of natural logs, not only as a response to the concrete surroundings but also as central elements that enclose a warm wood surface region. The logs lead the way as one enters the space, creating a strong sense of presence. The contrast between the warm logs and the cold, calm texture of the concrete enhances the warmth felt upon entering the space, while the simple, rough environment calms the nerves.
The 'Warming Cocoon' project, which started in July 2014 in Taipei and finished in October 2014, covers a space of about 70 square meters. The design's main challenge was finding different logs with the right length and thickness to bring life to the space. The result is a design that imitates the soul of nature, offering a simple place where deep voices can be heard, and more can be observed when disturbances are put away.
