M Residential: Blurring Boundaries and Embracing Nature

A Boundaryless Residential House Designed by Tsun-Shao Yang

In order to provide a quiet and boundaryless ambience for our clients, Tsun-Shao Yang, the renowned designer, aimed to integrate the owner's fine collection, the shifting of light and its shadow throughout the daytime and seasons, and the green lives the client loves most.

With the concept of transparency and boundarylessness, the M Residential house challenges the traditional separation between interior and exterior, light and dark areas, and openness and privacy of the public domain. Only a short distance away from a wall, the boundaries between these elements are blurred. On the contrary, the private domain emphasizes warmth, privacy, and the living nature of the space through the practical utilization of colors.

The realization of this unique design is achieved through careful attention to color collection, proportion, segmentation, and collage. The result is a harmonious blend of elements that create a serene and open living space.

Spanning 300 square feet, the M Residential house showcases the designer's expertise in masonry, iron castings engineering, custom kitchen design, and the use of natural stone. The technical specifications of the design are meticulously executed to ensure a seamless integration of form and function.

Working alongside Tsun-Shao Yang, the design team members, including Tsung-Huan Yang and Yi-Hsin Tsai, contributed their expertise to bring this vision to life.

The core of the design revolves around the central islet, which serves as the focal point of the space. The combination of coolness and warmth is expressed through the use of gold foil coating and titanium-coated steel tables at the entrance, facing a V-shaped bar. Large windows throughout the space allow for an abundance of natural light and provide a view of the surrounding greenery. The fusion and interaction between the interior setting and the outdoor view are enhanced by the ever-changing angles of sunlight.

The M Residential house, located in Ji-Lin Rd., Taipei, R.O.C Taiwan, was a project that commenced on May 1, 2014, and was completed on August 15, 2015. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted on woodwork, mud engineering, masonry, iron castings engineering, engineered flooring, custom kitchen design, custom-made glass, and the use of natural stone.

The design presented several challenges, including material development and binding materials without prior construction experience. However, through innovative solutions and a commitment to excellence, these challenges were overcome, resulting in a truly remarkable design.

Photographer Kuo-Min Lee beautifully captured the essence of the M Residential house, showcasing its unique features and design elements.

This exceptional design was recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills. The M Residential house exemplifies the integration of art, science, design, and technology, contributing to an improved quality of life and making the world a better place.
