Goodi: Revolutionizing Picnic Experiences with Innovative Packaging

Chien Chun Feng's Award-Winning Design Transforms Picnic Snacking

Chien Chun Feng's "Goodi" is a line of modular food packaging that has revolutionized the picnic experience. This innovative design, which won the Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2017, offers convenience, variety, and a unique aesthetic appeal, enhancing the pleasure of outdoor dining.

The inspiration for "Goodi" came from the desire to make picnicking more enjoyable and less wasteful. The idea was to create a range of mini packaging for picnic snacks that customers could mix and match according to their preferences. The packaging is designed to be assembled into a picnic basket, making it easy for consumers to carry their snacks to their picnic location.

"Goodi" stands out for its unique properties. Each snack is packaged in a convenient hexagon-shaped package, allowing consumers to mix and match items according to their taste and need. The line offers five different food packages: nuts lover, the fruit club, cookie junkies, chocoholic, and juice addict. Each package has a unique structure that allows for ease of use and sharing, enhancing the picnic experience.

The design is realized using paper board and plastic sheet. The outer packaging, formed by a plastic sheet, can be reused as a bag. The hexagon packaging can be transformed into a special structure for usability, such as a plate for sharing or divided into two pieces for two different products.

The project started in August 2016 in New York City and was completed in December 2016. It won the 2017 American package design award in February 2017. The design process involved extensive research and analysis of product and consumer profiles to create visually impactful images and marketing materials that help "Goodi" stand out from the competition.

Chien Chun Feng faced several challenges during the design process. The most difficult part was incorporating the story of picnicking into the design. The packaging structure also required extensive experimentation. After exploring ten different packaging structures, Feng refined one structure and successfully incorporated a modular system into the packaging design for ease of use and easy sharing.

In conclusion, Chien Chun Feng's "Goodi" is a testament to the power of innovative design in enhancing everyday experiences. By transforming the way we package and carry our picnic snacks, "Goodi" has made picnicking more enjoyable, convenient, and aesthetically pleasing. It's no surprise that this unique design has been recognized with a prestigious design award.
