Taured: A Decorative Clock Exploring the Mysteries of Time

Unveiling the Paradox of Time

Inspired by the intriguing tale of a man who mysteriously disappeared in the space of time, CHIU WEI-CHIH created Taured to explore the concept of parallel time spaces. The clock features a titanium-plated mirror clock face that symbolizes time and coexisting parallel time spaces. On the clock, two mini persons and a mini dog, 3D-printed and finished with brass plating, depict different time spaces. The clock's base is crafted from a single piece of marble, adding elegance to the design.

Taured is not just a clock; it is a visual representation of the temporal paradox. When viewed from the front, it may appear like any other ordinary clock. However, upon closer inspection, the 3D objects on the clock's surface, combined with the reflection from the titanium-plated mirror and the viewer's perspective, generate various notions about space and respond to the mysteries of time.

The realization of Taured involved cutting the clock surface from a 3mm steel plate using a CNC laser cutting machine. The surface was then meticulously polished for titanium plating. The mini objects were created using 3D software and printed, with a final touch of brass plating. The clock's base was crafted by skilled artisans who cut and polished a single piece of marble.

Measuring 300mm x 100mm x 305mm, Taured is a unique and captivating addition to any space. Its design challenges the boundaries of time and serves as a thought-provoking conversation starter.

The Taured clock project commenced in August 2016 and was completed in January 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. CHIU WEI-CHIH collaborated with graphic designer CHEN YU-CHIEH to bring this concept to life.

Recognized for its ingenuity and creativity, Taured received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017. This prestigious award honors designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
