In the bustling district of Indonesia, where hotels and luxury apartments are in high density, Hotel Ashley stands out with its unique exterior design. The designer, Stanley So, recognized the challenge of privacy in such a crowded area and solved it by creating an iconic irregular shape for the exterior wall. This not only ensures privacy but also increases the surface area and number of rooms.
Hotel Ashley prioritizes the comfort of its guests, employing a down-to-earth brown theme color scheme throughout the interior. The lobby and conference room feature a consistent organic shape of the ceiling, integrated with stylish lighting, creating a cozy atmosphere. The contemporary design of the facade provides a 270-degree open view, enhancing privacy by preventing guests from seeing each other through the wide windows.
Even in the smaller rooms, Hotel Ashley excels in utilizing glass and lighting to enhance the perception of space. Special glass allows light to infiltrate from the washroom into the bedroom, without compromising privacy. This clever design element adds to the overall sense of openness and comfort.
Hotel Ashley's realization technology involves the strategic use of glass and lighting to create a spacious feel within the constraints of the room space. The designer paid careful attention to detail and frequently visited the site to ensure that the construction proceeded according to plan and any questions or problems were addressed.
Overcoming the challenges of cultural and language differences, Stanley So successfully handled this overseas project. The unique exterior wall design required extensive structural explanation and education. Additionally, the high material prices in Indonesia and the cost of importing materials posed challenges. Despite these obstacles, Hotel Ashley was completed within a year and a half, from concept design to construction.
Hotel Ashley's design was based on thorough research and study of the local geography, population, culture, behavior, and living standards. The designer gathered statistics and information from the internet and communicated with the client's team to ensure a well-informed and qualified design.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. The award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of Hotel Ashley, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology. This design not only exhibits strong technical and creative skills but also contributes to improving the quality of life, making the world a better place.
