White Dreamland: A Pure and Elegant Hair Salon

Creating a Snowy Dreamland for Hairdressing

Pursuing the original charm of beauty, Wei Cheng Lin, the founder of a leading salon group in Taiwan, has returned to Taipei from decades of residence in South Africa with a passion for hairdressing and a new search in the profession. The designer of this project, Wei Cheng Lin, hoped to bring out the authenticity of hairdressers and visualize the concepts into the space with plainness. Based on the design concept of pure white and reserved white, a snowy dreamland-like space is built to practice simplicity through the mix-and-match of explicit materials, metal, and mirrors.

Since the owner prefers an elegant and clean environment, the designer, Wei Cheng Lin, avoided gaps and joints exposed in the overall design. Many ingenuities are secretly placed to deliver an invisible aesthetic, such as the continuous artificial stone walls and the prominent ceramic floorings that lower the number of gaps created by the patchwork of materials. At the same time, a sufficient storage room is hidden behind closed cabinets to maintain a fresh expression and a comfortable atmosphere.

Continuing the aesthetic concept of preserved white, plain stone materials, tiles, mirrors, metals, and piano lacquers are decorated throughout the overall space; the flooring is extended with plain-white and marble-grained ceramic floorings. At the same time, walls of artificial stones are paced to echo with the piano lacquers of cabinets and doors, and the mirrors and colorful eco tiles are used to give the space an elegant sense. Overall, it is combined with conditions of easy-to-clean, durable, convenient for salon operating while upholding aesthetic and a timeless style.

The project is equipped with an initial advantage of natural lighting. The interior is set up with energy-saving LED lights in white and paired with lamps to achieve a high overall saturation; meanwhile, the white colors, the reflection of the mirrors, and polished materials are used to give the interior brightness and unique lighting effects during the day and the night. The designer has combined the large windows with mirrors and stainless-steel frames to replicate the interior and exterior that delivers a new and abstract design effect.

The change of hairstyle is no longer a regular task in life; it is a lifestyle that combines attitude and spiritual desire by unique designs. To create an expansive and exclusive environment, the designer, Wei Cheng Lin, designed a cross-shaped traffic flow and used diamond shapes to form the styling area, the columns, mirrors, the lightings of the ceiling, and the lines. At the same time, the four seats are planned individually to maximize the spacing effect; the arrangement gives customers a relaxing environment without interfering with each other while providing hair stylists with their exclusive work area.

The project is located in Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan, and was finished in October 2020 after a five-month construction period starting in May 2020. The 60-ping base space is transformed from a 40-year-old old house to a clean, simple, and gorgeous hair salon. The low-chroma whites and polished materials have given users a warm and clean impression; meanwhile, the interior is decorated with metallic hardware, selected lightings, and leather chairs to form a refined and elegant style. The ceiling is intentionally wreathed with cross-divided mirrors and diamond-shaped lighting circuits to provide a flowing visual experience and eliminate the pressure brought by the column beams.

Despite the challenges faced during the construction, such as the safety of hanging large-scale ceramic panels and the consideration of personnel and traffic rights of way, the designer, Wei Cheng Lin, has overcome them one by one, reflecting the ultimate perfection of craftsmanship from the details.

The pure white is compatible with all colors while the simple linear is suitable for any shape; the elements have formed a relaxing environment. This pure-white salon's color configuration, cross division, and texture presentation are the essential elements for aesthetic composition. The overall is filled with lights and shadows, mirror reflections, neat linear and primitive colors to present a fantasy-like image of ingenious and spotless.
