Blending Oriental Aesthetics with Modern Technology

Sarah Yan, a visionary in the realm of interior design, has breathed life into a 2628 square meter space in Guangzhou City, China. Her project, 'Sensitivity', is the first residential property in the city to incorporate Virtual Reality (VR) technology. Yan's design inspiration stems from the changing seasons and their associated activities, such as flower blossoms in spring and lighting fireworks in winter. These elements are artistically represented in a 3D format throughout the residence, creating a harmonious connection between people, architecture, and nature.

What sets 'Sensitivity' apart from other designs is its unique blend of traditional artistry and modern technology. Yan has utilized the Microsoft HoloLens technology, video, image, and location to create an immersive environment that brings residents closer to their surroundings. The 8-meter glass walls and the use of art skills to represent natural elements like water and mountains further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space.

Yan's design also draws inspiration from the famous art painting “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by Song Dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan. She has applied interactive LED techniques to vividly display residential landscapes, including the residence, courtyard, art gallery/club, kindergarten, etc. This innovative approach to interior design has resulted in a living space where glittering sunlight and advanced technology coexist.

The 'Sensitivity' project, completed in July 2017, faced numerous creative and technical challenges. Yan's design principle of humanity sensitivity and creativity led her to integrate oriental aesthetics with modern technology. This fusion of styles and techniques has resulted in a design that demonstrates inventive aesthetics and offers a unique lifestyle experience.

For her remarkable work on 'Sensitivity', Sarah Yan was awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to designs that exhibit outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, and that introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. Yan's 'Sensitivity' project is a testament to her ability to create designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also technologically advanced and emotionally engaging.
