Decorative Lamp by Atelier Varadinum

The Seed of Life Lamp, designed by Atelier Varadinum, is a unique and innovative decorative lamp that combines the art of origami with modern technology. The lamp's body is made entirely out of wood, assembled from more than 100 small laser-cut modules, forming a 3D object without the use of any screws or adhesive. This design approach not only showcases the designer's creativity but also ensures the lamp's durability and accuracy.

The lamp's structure is based on a Truncated Icosahedron inscribing the seed of life symbol on its faces. The modules that form this structure were laser-cut from a 4 mm thick plywood and meticulously assembled by hand. With over 100 modules, including 32 big modules of two kinds and over 90 connecting modules, the Seed of Life Lamp is a true testament to the designer's attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Measuring 280 mm in diameter, the lampshade creates a mesmerizing effect when illuminated. The lamp projects the seed of life pattern from its sides onto the room walls, transforming the environment into a captivating display of light and shadows. To ensure safety, the lamp is designed to accommodate LED light bulbs with a maximum diameter of 60 mm.

The Seed of Life Lamp comes with a metal ceiling rose, a 1.5 m textile-coated cord set, and a metal light bulb socket, providing everything needed for easy installation. Its wooden origami design not only adds a touch of elegance to any space but also serves as a functional light source.

The project was designed in Oradea, Romania, and took approximately four months to complete. Extensive research was conducted on Archimedean solids and the symbolism of the Seed of Life pattern to create a harmonious fusion of geometry and meaning. The result is a sculptural piece that seamlessly blends art, design, and technology.

The Seed of Life Lamp, with its intricate design and captivating illumination, has been recognized for its excellence. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2017. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the lamp's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements.
