Fiume: A Sophisticated Marble Coffee Table System

A Unique Design Inspired by Nature

Fiume is a system of coffee tables made entirely of marble. The tabletops come in three different shapes and sizes, while the legs are available in three different heights. The varying leg heights allow for partial overlapping of the tables, creating a visually interesting and dynamic arrangement. Customers have the freedom to choose the color and dimensions of both the tabletop and the leg height, ensuring a personalized touch.

The tabletops are crafted from marble using CNC machinery, with fiberglass reinforcement on the bottom for added durability. The wooden legs are turned and cut using CNC machinery as well, ensuring precision and consistency in their design.

One of the main challenges in creating Fiume was to strike a balance between an affordable price and a sophisticated look. The selection of materials, along with the overlapping feature, helped achieve this goal. The marble tabletops exude elegance and luxury, while the customizable options allow for a personalized touch that suits any interior.

MrSmith Studio's research for Fiume began by observing nature, specifically the shape of stones found on riverbeds. This inspiration led to the creation of the rounded edges with an asymmetrical curve, giving the tables a more natural and organic look. Additionally, extensive collaboration between the design studio and the client ensured that technical aspects, such as the selection of stones, thickness, and overall system design, were carefully considered.

Fiume was designed and realized in Italy, with the project taking approximately six months to complete. The result is a stunning coffee table system that seamlessly combines nature-inspired design with functionality and customization.

Fiume has received recognition for its outstanding design, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and technical expertise, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
