Revolutionizing Kitchen Spaces: LA AGENCIA's "Banco"

Platinum A' Design Award Winner Transforms the Kitchen Table into a Multifunctional Tool

LA AGENCIA, a design team led by Sebastián Rial and Federico Senociaín, has created a unique kitchen table that pushes the boundaries of traditional furniture design. Drawing inspiration from the evolving dynamics of contemporary life, the team has developed "Banco", a kitchen table that not only serves as a centerpiece for the kitchen space but also functions as a versatile tool for various kitchen activities.

"Banco" is a system of furniture integrated with worktops designed for different purposes, allowing each user to adapt it to their needs. The table's unique properties lie in its improved performance as a kitchen tool, offering a dynamic space that integrates various activities. The kitchen table dilutes its limits, promoting a meeting and exchange, and becoming an essential part of the cooking ritual.

The design of "Banco" combines wood, metal, and stone, striking a careful balance between contemporary production systems and handcrafted processes. The selected wood is oak, finished with non-toxic oils. The countertops are made of artificial stone for extreme resistance to kitchen activities, while the table legs and structure are made of stainless steel with powder paint. This combination of materials not only ensures durability but also adds a touch of sophistication to any kitchen space.

The product was developed as a system, with components including countertops that can be configured for food processing and preparation, washing, or cooking. The table has a width of 90 cm and a variable length from 45cm to 225 cm, with an adjustable height from 85 to 93 cm. The product is carried by modules and finally assembled at its place, making it a flexible and adaptable solution for various kitchen layouts.

"Banco" was developed in Montevideo, Uruguay, over a period of 5 months. The project's success is a testament to LA AGENCIA's thoughtful analysis of how contemporary life evolves and changes constantly. The design team's critical view of the fundamental role played by furniture in structuring and articulating space has resulted in a design that not only meets functional needs but also enhances the user's sensory experience.
