Finishfire Charging Platform

Modern magazine rack hides extinguishers

The Finishfire Charging Platform combines design and functionality to provide a stylish solution for organizing your living space while ensuring safety. Designed by Sanna Liimatainen, this innovative piece of furniture serves as a magazine rack, charging platform for mobile devices, and a cabinet for fire extinguishers.

The inspiration for the Finishfire Charging Platform came from the need to create a useful product for modern homes. Liimatainen wanted to design a permanent place for fire extinguishers in the living room while keeping tablets and charging cables organized. During the design process, she came across an old wooden table with an oval hole, which sparked the idea of combining glossy and matte surfaces, as well as oval and rectangular shapes.

The unique feature of the Finishfire Charging Platform is its versatility. It functions as a charging platform for up to three mobile devices, with a hidden inside shelf for storing USB dividers. The plastic oval cover can be easily swapped to match your color preference. Additionally, the cabinet covers your fire-extinguishing equipment, providing easy access to the fire blanket, which can be pulled out from below. The spray extinguisher, such as the FirePal Kitchen from GPBM Nordic OY, can be removed from the top or by opening the cabinet.

The Finishfire Charging Platform is made up of three main pieces: a wall mount, a wooden or MBF board cabinet cover, and a polycarbonate oval cover. The plastic plate snaps into the groove and can be removed without the need for tools. The wooden cabinet cover opens like a door, allowing for easy access to the fire extinguishers and charging cables.

Measuring 295mmx190mmx440mm, with an oval area height of 335mm, the Finishfire Charging Platform is designed for private homes. It is important for all users to be aware of the cabinet's contents. While the design is aesthetically pleasing, it is not intended for public spaces that must adhere to fire safety regulations set by authorities.

The project started in November 2015 in Espoo, Finland, and was completed in June 2016. The initial prototypes were built by Sanna Liimatainen herself, followed by the assistance of carpenter Kim Tasanko for further development. Industrial production of the Finishfire Charging Platform has not yet begun.

The Finishfire Charging Platform has received recognition for its design and functionality. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017. This award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Finishfire Charging Platform stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
