Kei Sato, a renowned designer, was inspired by the idea of a bonfire as a symbol of relaxation and honest conversation. The Co-Creation! Camp was designed to encourage evolution, foster connections, and produce innovative projects to address Japan's pressing social issues, such as low birthrate, population aging, and regional depopulation. The project's unique properties lie in its ability to facilitate information exchange and mutual assistance beyond various challenges.
The design process involved extensive research, thumbnail sketching, and the use of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. The final product includes a range of materials, from posters and pamphlets to leaflets and signs, each featuring the vibrant, colorful logo symbolizing individual will and the birth of new ideas.
The Co-Creation! Camp is not just a static design but an interactive platform. The project's progress is reported on its website, where anyone can learn about the methods and tips for hosting their own Co-Creation! Camp event. The project, which began in Tokyo in February 2015, is now held annually and continues to evolve.
One of the main challenges Sato faced was developing a visual identity system that could be used in both two and three dimensions. Despite this, the project has been a resounding success, leading to the production of more than 100 projects and earning the Silver A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2017.
Co-Creation! Camp is a testament to the power of design in addressing social issues. It serves as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change, proving that through collaboration and innovative thinking, we can overcome the challenges of our time.
