The key motivating feature of The Warm Concept is the use of warm colors, particularly gold and brown, as the primary color scheme. This choice was inspired by the owner's preference for warm colors and the designer's vision of creating a warm and inviting space. The combination of gold and brown colors reminds the designer of the Sphinx mythology, adding a touch of mystique to the design.
To complement the warm color scheme, the designer selected various natural industrial style textures and materials, including walnut, sandstone, cement, and tiles. These materials are used throughout the apartment to create a refined and textured look. The use of lighting, such as droplights with different heights in the lounge room, adds to the ambiance and serves as a focal point.
The Warm Concept stands out from other designs with its heavy permeation of rich, warm colors and exclusive flavor. Upon entering the apartment, one is greeted by a touch of greenery and a dimly lit lounge room, creating a calm and relaxed environment. The dining area features warm-colored timber and a dark brown wooden curve backdrop, while the lounge area is lined with cement boards and accompanied by a brown leather sofa and a dual-purpose small table.
The bedroom in The Warm Concept also embraces the warm color tone and textures. Light cream-colored walls and bedsheets provide a contrast to the warm color scheme, while a chopstick-shaped rustic brown tile is used to create a feature wall. Leather materials are used to wrap soft cushions behind the bed, adding another layer of texture to the room.
In terms of technical specifications, the walls within the living room are decorated with different style tiles and wooden pieces instead of paint. A golden slide door on the cabinet acts as a semi-feature wall along the dining table and serves as a functional divider for decorative items. The construction process involved closely monitoring the use of industrial style materials to ensure a refined finish.
The Warm Concept was realized through careful selection of warm colors, materials, and furniture that complement the overall design. The project started in January 2016 in Macau and was completed in August 2016. It was featured in Modern Home Magazine (Hong Kong) in October 2016.
Research on warm colors and their associations with feelings of passion, stimulus, celebration, and happiness influenced the design concept. The use of warm colors in Chinese culture to create a sense of happiness and harmony further supported the choice of the warm color scheme. Additionally, experiments have shown that warm colors can visually and mentally make a space feel warmer, providing a bonus during the winter months.
The Warm Concept presented some creative and technical challenges, but the designer successfully overcame them to create an elegant and comfortable home. The combination of warm colors, refined industrial style materials, and lighting effects has resulted in a design that is both visually appealing and inviting.
The Warm Concept was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach. This award recognizes designs that meet professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
