Zhimu Spa: A Harmonious Blend of Urban and Natural Beauty

Chuanjin Sun's Award-Winning Design Marries Architecture and Nature

In the bustling city of Changzhou, a unique spa experience awaits. Zhimu Spa, designed by Chuanjin Sun, is a testament to the harmonious blend of urban architecture and natural beauty. This article delves into the design process, inspiration, and unique features of this award-winning project.

Chuanjin Sun's inspiration for Zhimu Spa stemmed from the city's reputation as a vacation hotspot. The challenge was to create a sense of nature and relaxation in a large area with numerous private rooms. Sun found inspiration in the cityscape, integrating the rising buildings with the natural beauty into the spa's interior. The result is a space where stone represents mountains and trees depict the landscape, creating a serene environment.

What sets Zhimu Spa apart is its location in a beautiful resort city and the unique design elements that enhance the sense of ritual and dimension. The lounge area features an arc background, a stair set on the water surface, and a background that extends towards the clouds, creating an illusion of entering a meditation hall on the second floor. The design ensures that each private space is connected to nature, creating a seamless blend of interior and exterior.

The spa, covering a total of 2400 square meters, is realized using materials like stone, wood, and cloth that breathe life into the space. The seven-meter-high background of the first-floor hall is composed of irregular geometric blocks, symbolizing the trend of urban construction. The second floor offers an uninterrupted landscape view, creating an illusion of being in the mountains and capturing the grace of the city and natural scenery.

Technical specifications of the design were meticulously planned. The project required 53 private spaces in a large area with a floor height of less than 3 meters. To create a more open and upright space, 0.4% of the first-floor space was lifted to half of the floor, and the space was connected with the second floor using rotating stairs.

The design process was not without challenges. The original hotel structure had limited height and no available pipe wells. To ensure comfort and experience, the design team had to tear off half of the floor and use stairs to delay the dimensional feeling. The stair background extends to the two roof surfaces, creating a deeper space through the infinite extension of smallpox lights.

Despite the challenges, the design was successful in capturing the local nature and temperament of the city. The design style, reflecting local fashion, has led the entertainment industry and driven local tourism. The project has also won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
