The concept behind The Deconstruction is to question the traditional notion of jewelry as mere adornment. Roungpanyaroj asks, "Why can't jewelry be something more? How can we make it different?" This led to an extensive research process, resulting in the addition of mechanical parts and special joints to create a complex mechanism that allows the jewelry to move and be played with.
What sets The Deconstruction apart is its emphasis on interaction. Roungpanyaroj wanted to design a piece of jewelry that people could engage with, creating a meaningful experience between the wearer and the jewelry. The ability to transform the pendant into different shapes by rotating the handle on the back adds a playful element to the design.
The realization of The Deconstruction involved the use of advanced technology. The design was created using a 3D program, ensuring high accuracy and precision. The prototype was then printed using a 3D printer at a micron level of accuracy, allowing for the intricate parts and design. The use of innovative joints and small parts eliminated the need for welding, reducing energy consumption and making the production process more environmentally friendly.
With dimensions of 37mm width, 24mm depth, and 52mm height, The Deconstruction is made of silver and crystal, adding a touch of elegance to its unique design. The project started in May 2016 in Bangkok and was completed in April 2017. It was exhibited around Bangkok in May 2017, showcasing the innovative and captivating nature of this kinetic jewelry.
The Deconstruction is the result of extensive research into the significance of movement and interaction. Studies have shown that humans are naturally drawn to moving objects, and physical interaction is an integral part of our lives. By combining these elements in his jewelry, Roungpanyaroj creates a truly immersive experience for the wearer.
Creating kinetic jewelry presented its own set of challenges. Roungpanyaroj had to gain a deep understanding of kinetic aspects, such as animal actions and machine movable systems, and translate them into small mechanisms for his jewelry. The result is not just a piece of jewelry, but a work of art that connects the wearer to the design on a deeper level.
The Deconstruction has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2018. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
The Deconstruction by Pasu Roungpanyaroj is a testament to the power of design to challenge conventions and create unique experiences. With its kinetic movement and interactive features, this piece of jewelry goes beyond mere adornment, inviting wearers to engage and play with the design, forging a deeper connection between the wearer and the jewelry.
