Bloom at Night: A Blend of Artistry and Innovation

L'Atelier Five's 3D Printed Jasmine Flower Display Wins Silver A' Design Award

In the world of visual merchandising, the marriage of art and technology often results in stunning displays. L'Atelier Five's "Bloom at Night" project is a testament to this, where the delicate beauty of the Jasmine flower is brought to life through the innovative use of 3D printing technology. This unique design, inspired by the nocturnal blooming of Jasmine, a key ingredient in Alexander McQueen's Eau de Parfum, has earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award.

The inspiration behind "Bloom at Night" was the power and romance of the Jasmine flower, which blooms only under the moonlight. The challenge was to capture this delicate beauty in a large-scale, 3D form while staying true to the brand's ethos. The solution was found in Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printing, a cutting-edge technology that allowed for the creation of intricate, ornamental flowers.

Each flower was initially handcrafted from sugar and porcelain paste, then 3D scanned to create a digital model. This model was then used to produce four different shapes of flowers in various sizes, resulting in a display that looked natural and elegant, rather than mass-produced. This innovative process ensured the fine details and soft texture of the Jasmine flower were accurately replicated, creating a visually stunning display.

The "Bloom at Night" project was initially designed for a two-week installation at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. However, due to its success, the design has become a staple in the brand identity of the au Parfum and most recently the au Blanche Parfum displays, which can now be found in retail outlets and department stores worldwide.

Despite the challenges faced in replicating the delicate nature of the Jasmine flower, L'Atelier Five successfully combined traditional craftsmanship with innovative technology. The result is a unique visual display that not only captures the essence of the Jasmine flower but also pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved in retail window displays.

The "Bloom at Night" project is a testament to L'Atelier Five's commitment to innovation and creativity. The design's success and its recognition with the Silver A' Design Award highlight the potential of 3D printing technology in the realm of visual merchandising and beyond.
