Shih-Hsien Yuan's "Gorgeous Landscape": A Masterpiece in Oriental Aesthetics

Blending Traditional Culture and Modern Design in a Restaurant Setting

Shih-Hsien Yuan's "Gorgeous Landscape" is an award-winning restaurant interior design that fuses oriental aesthetics with a logical marketing image. This unique design has garnered international acclaim, earning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018.

The design concept of "Gorgeous Landscape" is rooted in the principles of oriental aesthetics and the philosophy of "acting by doing nothing". This approach elegantly infuses traditional popular cultures and Confucianism into the restaurant's interior decorations, creating a space where people come not only to eat but also to appreciate and relax.

One of the most striking features of the design is the 30-meter-long floor-to-ceiling glass at the bar area. This architectural element extends the visual scope of the space, connecting the interior with the outside world. The large, spiral staircases majestically link the ground floor with the basement level, while the ceiling glass above the central area creates a pool landscape. This, coupled with a large and stylish piece of deadwood in the middle pool, creates stunning visual effects and contributes to the natural atmosphere of the restaurant.

Despite having more than 700 seats, the design ensures that every visitor enjoys a view of vistas everywhere. These vistas, varying in size, enlarge the visual scale and add to the appeal of the space. The visual decorations maintain a consistent oriental style, featuring woodworks, vertical grilles, Chinese-style medicine cabinets and boxes, horse posts, and lanterns.

The design also showcases diverse installation arts, creating multiple art sentiments in a neutral environmental atmosphere. The numerous vistas subtly delineate the delicate and intangible boundaries in the large restaurant. The wavy gray marbles artistically display the sansui characteristics, and the glass screens ornamented with black ironworks define the seat area.

The "Gorgeous Landscape" project was completed in April 2017 in Taipei City, Taiwan, covering a space of 3186 square meters. The design was a result of meticulous research and overcoming creative, technical, and research challenges. It is a testament to Shih-Hsien Yuan's innovative approach to interior design, blending traditional and modern elements to create a unique and engaging space.
