Revolutionizing Home Cleaning: The Deebot Ozmo 930

Li Xiao Wen, Zhou Jin Ye and Xie Jing Ya's Innovative Floor Cleaning Robot

With the rise of smart homes, the Deebot Ozmo 930, a floor cleaning robot, is revolutionizing the way we clean our homes. Designed by Li Xiao Wen, Zhou Jin Ye and Xie Jing Ya, this innovative design has won the prestigious Silver A' Home Appliances Design Award in 2018.

The Deebot Ozmo 930 was inspired by the complexity of home environments. From children's rooms filled with toys to work areas stacked with tools, the designers recognized the need for a cleaning robot that could adapt to various terrains and avoid certain spaces when needed. The robot also needed to cater to different floor materials, such as carpeted areas that do not require the mop function nor want to get wet by the cleaning rag. This led to the development of a unique smart partitioned cleaning and carpet identification function.

What sets the Deebot Ozmo 930 apart from other cleaning robots is its intelligent cleaning system. Equipped with a Laser Displacement Sensor (LDS), the robot is capable of creating home maps quickly and performing overall planning navigation. The robot can automatically identify a carpet and start carpet mode, avoiding wetting the carpet when mopping. Users can also select the partition area necessary to clean via a smartphone app.

The Deebot Ozmo 930 is equipped with the latest LDS, ultrasound carpet identification sensor, infrared distance measurement and other sensors, as well as the most advanced distance measurement and path planning procedures available at this time. Non-spray materials, unique translucent materials and the IMD technique have been used to manufacture the robot, making it a state-of-the-art piece of technology.

The project commenced in Suzhou, China, in January 2017, and was completed in December 2017. The design process involved a research task force comprising user research specialists, industrial designers, and product managers. They surveyed home environments in different countries and territories, studying the cleaning requirements of different floor materials to redefine the cleaning method of a floor cleaning robot.

The biggest challenge faced during the research and development process was building a floor cleaning robot that could adapt to various terrains of different home environments and achieve accurate and reasonable intelligent partitioning. However, the team's hard work and dedication paid off when the Deebot Ozmo 930 was awarded Silver in A' Home Appliances Design Award in 2018.
