The 2017 Product Design Exhibition: Redefining Brand Identity

A Showcase of Graduation Design Excellence

The 2017 product design graduation design exhibition, led by Yinan Lyu, Vin Wen, and Xi Chou, has undergone a remarkable transformation to update its brand image. Drawing inspiration from the original logo's three hexagonal shapes, the designers have reimagined the brand identity to reflect the unique style and structure of product design. The result is a striking logo that captures the essence of the exhibition and showcases the energy and creativity of the graduating students.

This brand promotion project focuses on enhancing the original three hexagonal logo. The designers recognized that the hexagonal shape effectively conveys the connotation of industrial product design, and thus decided to retain it. However, they also wanted to emphasize the collaborative nature of the exhibition, where many individuals come together to create something extraordinary. To achieve this, they incorporated the imagery of hives, symbolizing teamwork and unity, into the hexagonal structure. The bold black and yellow color scheme adds vibrancy and personality, capturing the spirit of the soon-to-be-graduating college students.

The logo, realized through spot color printing on paper, can be used to print various documents or undergo special production processes. Its versatility allows for customization according to specific needs. The design team, consisting of Yinan Lyu, Vin Wen, and Xi Chou, meticulously crafted this logo to ensure its seamless integration into the exhibition's visual identity.

The project commenced in January 2017 in Changchun and concluded in April 2017 in the same city. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to align the exhibition's content with the principles of modern product design—conciseness, beauty, and practicality. By extracting elements from hives and structures and combining them with the impactful black and yellow color scheme, the designers successfully conveyed the idea of industrial product design while creating a visually captivating logo.

One of the main challenges faced by the designers was to create a logo that would stand out amidst a sea of competitive products and serve as a unique visual symbol. The solution lay in designing a modern, concise, and approachable logo that would instantly capture people's attention without the need for a name. The result is a logo that not only represents the exhibition but also embodies the creativity and innovation of the participating students.

This exceptional design has been recognized for its ingenuity and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2018. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate excellence in incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
