Nest is not your ordinary chess set. It is a compact and portable chess set that takes up minimal space, making it perfect for travel or small living spaces. The chess pieces are cleverly nested within the chessboard, allowing for easy storage and transportation. The materials used in the design, along with its metaphorical meaning, make Nest a unique and thoughtful gift option.

The chess pieces of Nest can be produced using metal wire erosion or by cutting them from a specially designed aluminum extrusion profile. The chessboard is made from gulfac coated, self-skinning, cold foamed polyurethane, which ensures durability and a smooth playing surface. The largest chess pieces stand at 60 mm high, while the closed box dimensions are 60 x 170 x 340 mm. When in play, the chessboard measures 30 x 340 x 340 mm.

Using Nest is a breeze. Once removed from the cardboard box, the chessboard, which houses the chess pieces, is divided into two pieces and assembled. Magnets on the boards securely hold the product together. The chess pieces can then be easily removed and the game is ready to begin.

Suha Suzen, the designer behind Nest, aimed to enhance the metaphorical meaning of the chess game and make it more enjoyable. The abstract forms of the chess pieces, along with their aluminum construction, give the set an artistic and exhibition-worthy quality. Additionally, the compact size of Nest allows for easy portability, making it a game that can be enjoyed anywhere.

The Nest chess set was designed and prototyped in Konya, Turkey in 2018. The design is currently in the process of being registered in Turkey. The inspiration for Nest came from the desire to promote peace and coexistence, challenging the traditional view of chess as a battle between enemies. By combining the chess pieces at the end of the game, Nest emphasizes unity and harmony.

With its innovative design and meaningful concept, Nest has garnered recognition in the design community. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Toys, Games, and Hobby Products category in 2018. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
