Koc Yasam: A Unique and Vibrant Dormitory Design

Enhancing Student Life with Innovation and Creativity

Koc Yasam, a dormitory located in Ankara, Turkey, stands out as a remarkable design that caters to the needs and aspirations of students. Created by renowned designer Ismail Murat Saltipinar, this dormitory offers a unique living experience that combines functionality, aesthetics, and a vibrant atmosphere.

The inspiration behind Koc Yasam stems from the desire to provide a space that values and celebrates the spirit of young people. Saltipinar explains, "We dream, we pull out all the stops to make our dreams come true. While designing the area, we think about the souls of young people and students - colorful, free-spirited, dynamic, and enjoyable."

One of the key strengths of Koc Yasam is its comprehensive range of services that enhance the quality of life and productivity of students. The dormitory features a reception area, fitness center, game activity area, hobby kitchen, etude room, health service, sauna, market, cafe, restaurant, drawing room, help desk, mini movie theater, karaoke room, barbeque yard, luggage room, music room, playstation room, ironing room, waiting room for guests, dry cleaning, and an infirmary. These facilities are designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of students, creating a vibrant and engaging environment.

When it comes to the realization of the design, Saltipinar and his team worked closely with experienced manufacturers to ensure the use of high-quality materials that are both safe and aesthetically pleasing. Wood, stainless metal, painted metal, colorful glass, parquet, PVC floor covering, marble, and granite were carefully selected to create a harmonious blend of natural and artificial elements. The ventilation and electrical systems were also revised to optimize functionality, and all floors were reconstructed according to the new plan.

With a total area of 13,000 square meters, Koc Yasam offers various room options, including single rooms, rooms for three people, and rooms for four people. The dormitory also provides emergency health services, laundry facilities, and a help desk to ensure the well-being and convenience of its residents.

The design process for Koc Yasam took approximately 45 days, during which the team conducted extensive research on the needs and preferences of students. Saltipinar notes, "The starting point of our research was the lack of places designed as dormitories. As a team, we went over these shortcomings and designed systems where hundreds of geniuses can live and meet all their needs."

Recognized for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity, Koc Yasam was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2018. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate excellence in incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Koc Yasam stands as a testament to the power of design to improve the quality of life and create a positive impact on society.
