David Dos Santos' Award-Winning Backpack Merges Functionality, Safety, and Sustainability

The inspiration for the Numi Pack came from a trip to Thailand, where the design team recognized the common struggles travelers face with power sockets, storage, safety, and sustainability. This realization sparked the idea of a backpack that could address these issues, enhancing the travel experience while promoting sustainability. The Numi Pack is designed to provide travelers with the freedom to explore, stay connected, and generate their own power, all while leaving a minimal environmental footprint.

What sets the Numi Pack apart from other travel backpacks are its unique features. The backpack is equipped with an integrated 7 Watt solar panel and a connected 22,000mAh USB type-C power bank, allowing travelers to generate and store their own power. Safety features include hidden zippers to deter thieves and water repellent material for protection against the elements. An extra hoody and rain cover are integrated into the backpack, which is also drop safe from a height of 6 meters. The backpack offers highly customizable, detachable compartments for various items, and external pockets for easy access.

The Numi Pack is made from Frosted Nylon, a lightweight, tear and wear proof material that is water repellent and UV resistant. The solar panel is mono-crystalline, waterproof, and UV resistant, with a urethane coating. The backpack comes in two sizes, 30L and 20L, and weighs only 300g, making it a practical and convenient choice for travelers.

The design process for the Numi Pack began in mid-2015, with the product launching on Kickstarter in July 2016 and shipping starting in February 2017. The design team, led by David Dos Santos and including Norbert Linke and Elaha Rafie, aimed to help travelers get the most out of their journeys by staying fully charged, safe, and organized on the road.
