Zi Ran: A Table Inspired by Nature

Combining Tradition and Innovation in Furniture Design

Living, like any living things, is a spontaneous process. The Chinese word for nature is Zi Ran, which means that the process happens of itself, not under control of any outside force. Kaidi Mao designed and made the table following this philosophy, without using any nails, screws or glue. Poplar was used as the material, due to the wood's properties, which are lightweight, particular veins and fresh color. The table is modern, steady and durable, but also flat packable, and can be assembled by one person without using any tools and hardwares.

Kaidi Mao, a renowned designer known for his innovative approach to furniture design, has recently unveiled his latest creation - Zi Ran, a table inspired by the concept of spontaneity found in nature. The table, which can be used as a dining table or a desk, showcases the perfect blend of traditional Chinese woodworking techniques and modern design principles.

What sets Zi Ran apart from other tables on the market is its unique construction. Mao has managed to design and make the table without using any nails, screws, or glue. Instead, he utilized the traditional Chinese mortise and tenon technique, which not only adds to the table's aesthetic appeal but also ensures its durability and longevity.

Poplar, a lightweight hardwood often used in Asian furniture building, was chosen as the main material for Zi Ran. Mao was drawn to poplar not only for its sturdiness but also for its beautiful light wooden color with a hint of green. This choice of material not only adds to the table's visual appeal but also reflects Mao's commitment to sustainability.

One of the standout features of Zi Ran is its versatility. The simplicity of its design allows it to serve multiple functions, making it a practical addition to any modern household. Additionally, the table is flat packable, meaning it can be easily assembled and disassembled without the need for any tools or hardware.

With its clean lines, modern aesthetic, and eco-friendly design, Zi Ran is not only a statement piece but also a testament to Mao's dedication to creating furniture that is both functional and sustainable. The table's child-safe design, with no sharp edges or heavy chemical finishes, makes it a perfect choice for families.

The Zi Ran table, which measures 30 inches in height, 39 inches in width, and 69 inches in length, was meticulously crafted by hand in Los Angeles. The production process was waste-free, aligning with Mao's commitment to sustainable design practices.

Mao's innovative approach to furniture design has not gone unnoticed. Zi Ran was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2018. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Zi Ran's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics make it a standout piece in the world of furniture design.

With Zi Ran, Kaidi Mao has successfully merged tradition and innovation to create a table that not only showcases the beauty of natural materials but also reflects the spontaneity found in nature itself. The table's unique construction, versatility, and sustainable design make it a timeless addition to any modern living space.
