Aedas' Zhuhai Hengqin Headquarters Complex: A Marvel of Modern Architecture

Unveiling the Aedas-Designed Cultural Tourism-Oriented Complex in Zhuhai

The Zhuhai Hengqin Headquarters Complex, designed by the renowned architectural firm Aedas, is situated on the prime Hengqin Island in Zhuhai. The complex overlooks some of the largest casino resorts across the river, positioning it as a major cultural tourism-oriented complex. It features two high-rise Grade-A office towers and a series of retail, banquet, entertainment, and leisure venues, making it an integrated hub for a variety of activities.

The design of the complex draws inspiration from ancient Chinese myths, specifically the totem of two dragons chasing a pearl, symbolizing the pursuit of a better life. The two towers represent strength and power, shimmering under the sun, while the banquet building nestled between them resembles an exquisite pearl. The podium design takes cues from the nearby Lotus Bridge, resembling a blooming lotus flower with 'lotus leaves' wrapping around it.

One of the unique features of the complex is its positioning as a Zhuhai tourism attraction, offering a collection of fashion, cultural experiences, tourism, leisure entertainment, and specialty food. The complex is expected to be Zhuhai’s first culture-themed shopping park. The design also includes six distinctively themed retail streets, each offering a unique shopping experience to locals and tourists alike.

The realization of the complex posed several challenges, particularly the design of the twin tower “dragon heads”. With a height of 300 meters, the two tower heads are cantilevered 10 and 15 meters respectively. To ensure a supreme quality of view, Aedas and the engineers devised a “hanging” system that has a top structural floor from which all slabs and associated façade cables are hung, achieving a column-less yet transparent “dragon head”.

The Zhuhai Hengqin Headquarters Complex is not only a marvel of modern architecture but also a testament to Aedas' commitment to innovative design. The project has been recognized with the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2018, a prestigious accolade granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology.
